FREE BEER!

Thursday, October 06, 2011 100 Comments »

OK, it's not free beer, but it is a giveaway!  Lots of the bloggers I follow have hosted giveaways, but this is my very first.  I’m giving up my giveaway virginity!!

In my last post, I told you about my friend Kimberly, who has written her second jelly roll book. Her first, Jelly Roll Quilts and More, was wonderful; I’ve made many quilts from her patterns, all of which went together easily, finished beautifully, and were quite satisfying to do.  Her new book, Jelly Roll Quilt Magic, continues where the first book left off – and it is a doozie.  It takes jelly roll creativity to a whole ‘nother level. The patterns are more challenging, but oh the quilts you can create!

Just to let you know how good this book is, thinking about it kept me up most of last night.  Yep, I was tossing and turning because all kinds of ideas for fabric combinations kept running through my head. First there was the Amish-ish Lone Star quilt using solid brights on black to go over the fire place in my son’s new house. Then there was the Autumn Leaves quilt in batiks, and that really pretty Christmas quilt.......

I have a copy of Kimbery’s book to give away!!   As it turns out, I was sooooo anxious to get it, I pre-ordered it twice from Amazon.  My mistake is your good fortune!  I am making the deal even sweeter by including two companion rulers created by Kimberly.  They make using jelly rolls and pre-cuts so much easier:  the Easy Star and Geese Ruler, and the Simpli-EZ Jelly Roll Ruler.

So what do you have to do to be eligible for this fabulous jelly package?  Just post a comment on my blog telling me why you like working with jelly rolls, or why you would like to try working with them.   If you want an extra chance at winning, post about my giveaway on your blog and include that info in your comment to me.  How easy can it get?  You have until Thursday night, October 13th, to enter.  I will be spending the rest of the week training my cat to pull a name out of a hat.

DISCLAIMER:  For those who might be wondering, although Kimberly is a friend, she is not in any way sponsoring this giveaway.  This is strictly my deal.  When I run across something I like and think will make life easier for my fellow quilters, I am not shy about promoting it.

Well the title of this post got my attention! Not that I'm much of a beer drinker, but I did wonder how that was going to relate to quilting.

I would love to win a copy of the book. I think what I like most about jelly rolls in that half the work of cutting is done for me.

regan said...

I would love to win this book! I've actually heard about it on another blog (somewhere!....I just remember the name of the book! lol), and they raved about it, too!

I've never used a jelly roll, but I have tons of fabric cut into strips, ala Bonnie Hunter style! That's how I found your blog, I read your great comment on her Chicken Dip recipe today! You're a hoot, and I love your writing style!

Bobbi said...

Well I've admired her last book so expect this one will be great.

Why do I need it? Because some enabler who will go un-named got me interested in Jelly Rolls and I have more than I care to admit just languishing in a drawer. LOL

I really don't want to win this book...what I wanted only to say congratulation to you on entering a new challenge, that is the training of a cat.

Pat said...

Oh Pamela, you had me laughing so hard I sprayed my tea all over the keyboard!!!

I figured if I could train my husband, I'd at least give training the cat the old college try.

I would love to win this book. I have only used 1 jelly roll (that I won at a church auction). I loved those little pinked edges. They really helped me in keeping the edges straight.
Yes, you also enable me - bought the Bernna, skipped running class.......you are a dangerous woman!

I've started the work of making a quilt with a jelly roll! I bought ... well... a couple! {wink} Looking forward to using them because I won't have to spend as much time cutting! Nothing like being rewarded for my impatience!

I love working with jelly rolls because using them usually makes my project so scrappy. It's also a ways to use a fabric line that I love without having to purchase yardage of all the fabric. Thanks so much for sharing with us!

I love jelly rolls because they are already cute and the colors are matched exactly to make a beautiful quilt!!

Going to go get McCall's Quilting -I think you are on to something about presents. I have never been able to purchase every piece of a quilt line and when I started collecting jelly rolls, I found that satisfied by need to have one-of-each. I just knew someone would write a book about them and this one is wonderful. Thanks for this opportunity - fingers crossed. Judy C

Being new to quilting I have yet to work with jelly rolls but a good book would certainly help me along in that regard. Would love to be the lucky winner!

I like jelly rolls because it's a great way to get a taste of a whole collection without investing too much money. Mary from Quilt Hollow sent me over...you have a great blog.

Diane H said...

Thanks so much for a chance. I've got one jelly roll in my stash collecting dust (which really isn't that hard to do in my house). I need some guidance as to what to do with it and this book looks like a great place to start.

I am going to have to check out that magazine cause that quilt is beautiful! I just got some Christmas jelly rolls and have never worked with them and have no idea of what to do with them...lol I'm a new follower :)

I love jelly rolls because you get ready to use strips of each and every fabric from a line! Plus there are so many cute patterns and books that use jelly rolls.

Sunnybec said...

I like all pre-cuts as I hate cutting so any patterns using these is a bonus as far as I am concerned. Not sure if you would send this International but having a go just in case. Linda

I like using Jellyrolls because I get a wider variety of fabric than I could buying yardage. Also, part of the cutting work is already done for me. That is a biggie when you work full time AND are a caregiver.

BillieBee (billiemick) said...

What a cute post. I came for the beerrrrrr, but the book would be great....grin. I've only made one quilt with jelly rolls, so I would like to try it again.

I like to work with jelly rolls because I love scrappy quilts. Jelly rolls introduce enough color that can be spread all over the quilt using so many different fabrics for interest. Yeah for jelly rolls!

Janet said...

I love buying jelly rolls! I still need to practice sewing with them. I just can't resist these yummy coils of fabric. I would love to win this book.

JustPam said...

I love scrappy quilts and what easier way is there to have a beautiful one that by using precuts. I love the idea of using jelly rolls to make some amazing quilts. I would love to win this book and rulers.

Robin (RsIslandCrafts) said...

I love working with jelly rolls. They are a great way of getting to play with all the fabrics in a collection without spending lots of money. Plus, they are easy and fun to work with :)

Kathy said...

I have a confession to make - I've never bought a jelly roll, or made anything with one. I have bought layer cakes and charm packs, but I'd love to try a jelly roll, too. Thanks for having a giveaway - the quilt on the cover of the book looks great!

floribunda said...

I've only used one jelly roll so far, but I like the way you get a whole set of fabric to play with without buying 40 separate cuts! I have plenty of scraps strips to use up, too...

I love working with jelly rolls, but have trouble thing up a pattern that isn't boring. I would love to have a copy of Kimberly's new book. Thanks for the chance.

I posted a link on my blog to your giveaway. Thanks for the extra chance.

I like working with jelly rolls because there is so much you can do with them! And since they're precut, that 2" accuracy is something I can count on, which is important! Thanks for the opportunity to win! :)

Kate said...

Thanks so much for sharing. I can relate to the Amazon story. I love Jelly Rolls for th obvious convenience of pre-cuts and I love that all the strips are the same line. Unfortunately they start to multiply and you realize one day you to just take off the ribbon and sew something - sniff. So a good JR pattern book would be the needed inspiration to get going.

I love using Jelly rolls, because it makes it so easy to choose fabric (I hate making fabric decisions) I'm excited about this new book, thank you for posting about it. I'm looking for something a little more challenging!

Jan said...

I've always loved working with jelly rolls, I think it's something about not having to do all the cutting myself.

Mommarock said...

I still havn't used a jellyroll. I'm not quite sure HOW to make a quilt out of one jellyroll. Can it really be done? Dunno. I'd love to win this book, and maybe get some direction on that.

Brenda said...

I love to work with precut strips, because with minimal piecing time, I can actually get some piecing done! I rarely have time for me, and these just make that time much more productive!

I'd love to win that book-- that star quilt is so pretty!

carol fun said...

I love jelly rolls because you get to work with all the fabrics in a collection and they are such pretty fabrics! Beautiful quilts are so easy with jelly rolls.

KWILEY said...

I so would love to win this book. When I go to quilt shops I always admire, hold and peer thru the jelly rolls....but I've never purchased one since I dont have any patterns to use them...but I woudl so love th try 'em out....the stress of picking out fabrics is a non-issue - they all blend and work well together....so I'm a jelly roll newbie and would love to give 'em a try!

You sign for free beer caught my attention, but, I'd much rather win the book than have the beer - I don't like beer. I prefer quilting books, jelly rolls, etc. Is there any bribing your cat????
Have a great week-end. I'll post this give-away on my blog too - boltsandbobbins.blogspot.com

Wow, another chance to win this fabulous book (and more)! I love jelly rolls, because you have a whole complete coördinated fabrics to work with and the with of the pieces are just right for so many purposes. Of course just strips, but also for hexagons, triangles, et cetera

Love "official" jelly rolls (from Moda) as well as home made jelly rolls (from my stash). I use them all the time for baby size to twin bed size quilts. There are so many great patterns out there but clearly I don't have all of them! You are very brave to try training your cat. I have a cat and I suspect that really, he is the one training me.

QuiltSue said...

I love the look of this book and hope I might win.

I like working with jelly rolls as I am scrap-challenged, but using these I can make quilts with many different fabrics in.

Winning a copy of the book would be great!! You ordering two copies was a happy accident for visitors to your blog :-) Using Jelly Rolls saves lots of time and cutting....I don't like cutting......and they are just nice to look at before you take them apart!! I have a few in a basket in my dining room :-)

I've never used a jelly roll yet, but I own a bunch of them. I love that you get 1 of each of the line and they're all color coordinated for you. Thanks for the great giveaway, it's very generous of you. I've been reading about this book on a few blogs lately, it sounds very good. If I won maybe I'd be confident enough to break into a jelly roll. Thanks again!;->

So there I was googling "Free Beer" and here I am! HA!

But better than free beer is a quilting pattern book! I have a jelly roll that's been sitting on my shelf for about a year and I haven't decided what to do with it yet. This book might just have the answer!

Thanks for the chance to win it and interesting rulers, too. I'm a beginner at this quilting thing so don't have all the toys. Some toys would be fun! More fun than free beer.

Paula Ganyard said...

I like using Jelly Rolls for two reasons. First, the fabric has already been coordinate for me. Second, it is already cut and ready to go.

Beth in TN said...

I like working with jelly rolls because having a piece of each of the fabrics in a line makes every quilt you make from the roll "cohesive" in my estimation.

Anne Simonot said...

I have only purchased 1 jelly roll, which sadly still sits unused - I think I'm too scared to cut into it! I love it becuz of all the pretty colors and prints and they way everything co-ordinates so well together. I'm going to use it soon!

I just heard about your giveaway...I've never had a jelly roll...because of the price, I tend to go for FQ's of fabrics. I've seen numerous patterns I'd love to try though.

Hello there,
I was just blog surfing and found your site through Subee Sews Quilts. She has you as a blog that she follows. I love the quilts that you have made and it is always great to see the smiles on little faces.
In answer to your question, I have only used a jelly roll once (it was a gift) then given as a quilt. I don't know that much about jelly roll quilts so this book looks like a great idea. Thanks for the chance...

Heartsdesire said...

Would love to win the free beer! Oh, I mean fabric. lol Thanks for the wonderful giveaway. I love working with jelly rolls. A lot of the quilts I make call for 2 1/2-inch squares and with jelly rolls, I can get a quilt done quite quickly. And I can usually use the leftovers (if there are any) for the binding .

I like working with jelly-rolls because they save time! I make a lot of smaller, baby-sized quilts, and they sure come in handy! Since I hand quilt after I machine piece, this gives me more time for more intricate quilting...the part I really love!

So glad to have "found" your site. Love looking at all the beautiful quilts and pics.
