I am working on a king-sized quilt. It need it to be generously sized, not skimpy. So how big should it be? What is a good proportion for an inner and outer border?
Chart with standard mattress sizes says: King Size Mattress: 76"x80" Calif. King Size Mattress: 72"x84"
How many inches drop do you want? Probably at least 12" on both sides and bottom, perhaps less on top, though if you want a pillow-tuck, you'll need the same 12". Add 24" to both dimensions: King: 100" x 104" Cal.King: 96" x 108"
I like a plentiful drop for my bed, so I make quilts about 120x120 for a QUEEN bed. Yes, you read that correctly. Are you having it machine quilted? Consider the maximum width the quilter can handle.

YMMV, of course.
